YES, we are accepting submissions! This is a unique opportunity for talented amateurs to present their work alongside that of some of Canada’s best-known talent. We’re accepting submissions in both the literary and visual arts.
Having your submission accepted means your work will be read or displayed at the next event. Priority is given to work which adheres to the theme of each Hear Here gathering, though all submissions will be considered.
Artists whose pieces are accepted for a Here Hear event can attend for free.

LITERARY WORK
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Short fiction, poetry, novel excerpts, non-fiction, essays – if you’ve written it down and want to say it out loud, we want to hear from you.
- A VIDEO SUBMISSION of you reading your work. We’re looking for readers with a great presence in front of others. It is essential you include a video recording (webcam, video camera, cell phone) of how you’ll present your work at the Salon.
- Enough material for a maximum of seven (7) minutes reading time.
- Compliments.
- In your submission email, include “Literature,” then the form of the work (i.e. fiction, poetry, essay etc.), and your full name.
- Please let us know if the work has already been published or not.
- All work submitted should represent or show a connection to the salon’s theme (Look below).
- We’re a small team, so make it easy for us to get back to you. When submitting include your email AND phone number. Include a short bio (50 words max) just so we know you’re not a robot.
WHAT WE’RE NOT LOOKING FOR:
- Robot applicants. Even if you have a bio.
- This one may be obvious, but if you know you’re not going to be in Toronto at the time of the Salon date, please don’t submit. Hear Here does not have a Skype account set up for out-of-town readers. We’re working on acquiring two cans and a string, though.
- Submissions of more than seven (7) minutes of reading time. We know you may speak fast, but reading twenty pages in seven minutes might be a stretch. And since we’re a small team, we don’t have the time to select your best writing for you.
VISUAL ARTS
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Work in any discipline will be considered (painting, drawing, sculpture, fabric, etc.).
- All work submitted should represent or show a connection to the salon’s theme (see below).
- PDFs of up to five works only.
- No submission fee.
- All work must be exhibition ready.
- We’re a small team, so make it easy for us to get back to you. When submitting include your email AND phone number. Include a short bio (50 words max) just so we know you’re not a robot.
- Works will be required to stay on site for approximately one month in our exhibition space.
- Artist must be present to set-up and dismantle show.
